ECMWF improves financial control with MICROSOFT DYNAMICS NAV

ERP BUSINESS CHALLENGE
The system that ECMWF had in place was beginning to show the strain. Designed as a pure accounting solution, it didn’t have the flexibility they needed to tailor it to the organisation’s specific requirements, nor the level of integration with other key systems that the ECMWF desired.
ECMWF’s Financial Controller, Keith Edwards, explains: “We needed to find a financial solution that was flexible enough to be tailored to meet our needs, which also included a high level of asset management, and was also properly integrated with an effective payroll solution.”
THE MICROSOFT DYNAMICS NAV SOLUTION
The search commenced for a new ERP solution with a formal tender process. After an exhaustive evaluation, Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision) was selected, including integration with a third party-developed payroll solution already running on a Microsoft Dynamics NAV system. Go live for the finance and payroll solution was in early 1998, with the asset management module taking a little while longer to develop.
They chose to work with the Microsoft Dynamics NAV partner - Tectura. ECMWF’s Financial Controller, Keith Edwards, comments “The team at Tectura that developed and implemented the initial solution still works with the ECMWF today, a relationship of more than 6 years. The solution has been through a number of significant upgrades; the first implementation was version 1.0 and the ECMWF is now at version 3.7; the Tectura team continues to support the solution and carry out any bespoke development. Tectura has also taken over the support of the third party payroll system.

Edwards concludes: “Perhaps the most significant example of the benefits of Microsoft Dynamics NAV and our partnership with Tectura is that while ECMWF has itself been growing over the last few years, there has been no need to grow the team that manages the concomitant increase in finance, payroll and asset management effort.
